JOY WINKLER
COLLABORATOR - LIGHTNING UNDER THEIR SKIRTS
POET. DRAMATIST.
Born in Barnsley, Joy has lived and worked in Cheshire for the past 30 years. She began her creative life as a poet and was privileged to hold the post of Cheshire Poet Laureate in 2005. She is the author of several poetry collections, a verse/drama called ‘TOWN’ and the recently-acclaimed Storm in the North theatre-piece ‘Lightning Under Their Skirts’. This is a unique mix of poem and drama and stolen biography set in the 1960s. She has performed much of her work in collaborative touring roadshows and delivered ‘TOWN’ as a successful one-woman show.
Over the past twenty years she has worked as a facilitator of creative writing in many community settings in the North West including HMP Styal, Writing Lives in Salford and for Cartwheel Arts. Currently she holds the post of Writer in Residence at RHS Tatton in Cheshire where she has been running regular creative writing workshops over the past five years.
