The Woman Who Crossed the Road is the story of an incredible woman.  A real woman who doesn’t want to be named here because she fears for the implications for her family back in Iran.

She left Iran because… well, it’s a long list of difficult things.

The fact is… when you grow up and realise the country with its name on your passport, the place where your Baba and Maman told you stories about happiness, opportunity and fairness, doesn’t actually care about those things, then you have to get out.

You have to leave behind the cruelty and the rules made by men to control women. But you also have to say goodbye forever to the people and the places you love. And that bit hurts.

Eventually, with support from the Australian government, she took a suitcase with 37kilos, the max she was allowed to take, from Turkey (where she had initially escaped to) to Australia. One kilo for each year of her life.

‘The Woman Who Crossed The Road’ is a piece of contemporary theatre about a woman who bears the scars of being displaced, but - because of her courage and intelligence - is kicking back as hard as she can.

The piece is dedicated to all the women of Iran.

The event is hosted and supported by a collaboration of organisations across the world.
